Ideally, a good mobile game should be simple, addictive and able to be enjoyed even if you can only spare a few minutes at a time to play. Throw innovation into that mix and you’ve got yourself a mobile masterpiece. Of course, for a title to cover all of these bases is much easier said than done. This is why it’s such a breath of fresh air when games like Pixely People Making Movies come around.
Pixely People Making Movies is a combination RPG, time management, drag-and-drop game which places you in the role of a film director and charges you with creating a blockbuster smash. From casting to editing, the movie’s success is entirely in your hands. No pressure, you have three minutes.
Each movie is broken up into five segments: casting, filming, special effects, audio and editing. You’ll place your characters around the studio as the level progresses, making sure that they not only get the job done, but get it done right. The better you direct your crew, the more points you earn at the end of the stage. These points go toward leveling you up, which in turn allows you to create bigger and better movies. Along the way you’ll manage your stars’ attributes and skills while discovering your hidden talent as a director. Who knew you could make a zombie romance work?
Sure, there have been games that let you direct movies before, but how many of them can you carry in your pocket? How many give your tangible rewards for your directorial skill? How many can you play on the subway ride from Grand Central to Times Square?
Pixely People Making Movies is the only game of its kind, and at $1.99 on the App Store, it’s a steal.
