When it comes to the runner genre, you’re normally tasked with avoiding obstacles to last as long as possible. Not so with Jones on Fire, which instead has you saving kittens. Lots of kittens.

Jones on Fire from Glass Bottom Games introduces Emma Jones, a firefighter who gets into a tight spot between dangerous terrain and the need to protect the kitten population around her. Your task as Emma is to run through each level rescuing as many bundles of fluff as possible whilst avoiding the world around you. It won’t be an easy task either, what with waves of fire and all.

Judging from the trailer above, you’ll be able to both jump and duck under obstacles as they race towards you, with the kittens following along behind. Interestingly, the game doesn’t follow tradition, with the camera sitting on an angle instead of side on. You’ll also be rewarded with upgrades and new abilities depending on how many kittens you do catch, though it remains to be seen how so many of them are just hanging around like that … let alone floating in mid-air.

Originally intended for release this past Thursday before some late shuffling on Apple’s part, Jones on Fire will hopefully grace the App Store with its presence this week for free. In the meantime, be sure to visit the official website for more info.
