After winning Unity’s “Flash in a Flash” competition with Tail Drift back in 2012 (beating out mobile hit Ski Safari) the three-man development team at Attract Mode Games have decided to turn their arcade flying game into a full title. Tethered to a tubular track, players will race tiny planes through the different racing leagues versus either AI, or against a friend’s leaderboard time. Other game modes will be available, such as time trials and elimination races. Players will also be able to purchase new upgrades and personalization options for their planes using in-game currency.
Currently, the game has bubbly graphics and a bloom lighting filter that reinforces the lofty atmosphere, and the winding track laid out in front evokes a sense of roller coaster rails. While the art style has been finalized, Attract Mode Games says they plan on having multiple environment types, and have flirted with the idea of a “giant floating sky-volcano” as one area.
Tail Drift is slated for a free-to-play release in early June for iOS and Android. You can play the original prototype demo here.
